Nashik | February 20, 2026: CCTV surveillance systems at 40 major traffic signals across Nashik city have been activated from today, enabling authorities to take strict action against traffic rule violators through the e-challan system. Offences captured on camera will result in fines being issued directly to the registered vehicle owner via SMS.
Traffic violations such as jumping signals, stopping beyond zebra crossings, taking illegal U-turns, triple-seat riding, and other breaches will be closely monitored. Police have made it clear that motorists must strictly adhere to traffic regulations, as the “third eye” of surveillance will now remain constantly vigilant.
Although CCTV cameras had earlier been installed across the city under the Smart City initiative, they were not operational. Following continuous follow-up by the Police Commissionerate and after addressing issues related to poor visibility, high-quality upgraded cameras have now been installed. The newly activated cameras are directly connected to the Police Control Room and are expected to play a crucial role in traffic management, especially in view of the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
A 6×4-foot LCD video wall has been set up at the Police Control Room, along with 16 double-panel monitors, enabling officials to monitor city traffic in real time. Traffic department personnel have undergone training to initiate legal and penal action based on CCTV evidence and to process fines through the e-challan system. Once a violation is detected, details will be transmitted electronically to the City Command and Control Centre (CCC), verified, and an e-challan will be issued accordingly.
Key Features of the Control Room Setup
- 6×4 ft LCD video wall
- 16 double-panel monitoring screens
- Real-time traffic congestion updates through Google Maps integration
- Direct communication facility with traffic signals
- E-challan system for signal jumping, zebra crossing violations, illegal U-turns, and other offences
- 800 CCTV cameras installed citywide under the Smart City project; 40 signal-based cameras now operational
The initiative is expected to significantly enhance traffic discipline in Nashik. Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate by strictly following traffic rules to avoid penalties.
