Nashik: Gang arrested within 8 hours for murder of youth from CIDCO

Nashik (Correspondent): A group of four to five individuals brutally murdered Sumit Devre (20, resident of Mahajannagar) near the main bustling road in front of the church at Shubham Park on Thursday (March 13) at around 8:30 PM. The attackers assaulted him with a chopper, inflicting multiple blows. In swift action, the police apprehended two young men and two juveniles in conflict with the law within just eight hours.

The murder, which occurred on the night of the Holi festival, sent shockwaves across the CIDCO area. According to the complaint filed by Sunil Subhash Devre (49, an electrician residing at Gangeshwar Residency, Ekdant Nagar, Ambad Shivar, Nashik), his son Sumit Sunil Devre (20) received threatening and abusive calls from his friends over an old dispute between 7 PM and 8 PM on March 13, 2025. They lured him in front of Shubham Park Church and fatally attacked him with sharp weapons. A case was registered at Ambad Police Station, Nashik, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 sections 103(1), 352, 351(2), 351(4), and 3(5) (Case No. 200/2025).

Furthermore, the accused and the juveniles, in an attempt to flee, intimidated the complainant, Naitik Murlidhar Thakur, a resident near Shubham Park Church, Uttam Nagar, CIDCO, Nashik, at knifepoint and forcibly stole his motorcycle before escaping. Based on Thakur’s complaint, another case was registered at Ambad Police Station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 309(4), 126(1), 126(2), 352, 351(2), 351(3), and 3(5) (Case No. 201/2025).

Under the guidance of senior officers, a special crime detection team from Nashik City Police, led by Police Sub-Inspector Jhanaksingh Ghunawat and his team, worked tirelessly to track down and arrest the suspects within just eight hours. The arrested individuals include:

  1. Arun Uttam Vairagar (20), residing on rent in Shirsath’s room, behind Liver Fitness Gym, Phadol Mala, Ambad, Nashik.
  2. Prasad Gorakshanath Revgade (19), residing in a lane behind Swami Samarth Center, near Mauli Lawns, DGP Nagar, Ambad, Nashik.
  3. Two juveniles in conflict with the law.

The suspects were arrested from Rane Nagar, Mumbai-Agra Highway, Nashik. The police’s swift action led to the successful capture of the accused within just eight hours of the crime.
