Learn MorePune, May 21, 2025 – Pre-monsoon showers have intensified across Maharashtra, bringing widespread heavy rainfall that has already led to crop damage in several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued cloudy weather on May 21, with heavy rain expected in many parts of the state.
The forecast includes thunderstorms, gusty winds, lightning, and intermittent rain statewide. Several districts have been placed under a Yellow Alert, while others are now under an Orange Alert, indicating the likelihood of intense weather conditions.
Districts under Yellow Alert include Mumbai and surrounding regions, along with parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha. These districts are:
Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal.
Meanwhile, an Orange Alert has been issued for the following districts for May 21:
Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Ahilyanagar, Kolhapur, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, and Dharashiv.
Despite the rain, maximum temperatures in Vidarbha have climbed to nearly 40°C, creating humid and uncomfortable conditions. The combination of scorching heat and rainfall has resulted in a stifling atmosphere across the region. However, certain areas have experienced temporary relief from the heat due to the showers.
