Nashik: High Court to Hear Petition on Tapovan Tree Felling Today

Nashik | January 7, 2026: The proposed felling of trees at Tapovan, reportedly to facilitate the development of Sadhugram and a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) Hub by the Nashik Municipal Corporation, has come under judicial scrutiny. A petition challenging the move has been filed in the Bombay High Court by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) city vice-president and advocate Nitin Pandit.

The petition is scheduled for hearing today (Wednesday, January 7) before the Bombay High Court. During the proceedings, the petitioner has urged the civic body to either submit documentary evidence confirming the cancellation of the MICE Hub project or provide a written undertaking to that effect before the court.

Through the petition, Pandit has sought a stay on permission to fell 1,825 trees proposed for the Sadhugram project at Tapovan. He has further demanded that the MICE Hub project be stayed or scrapped entirely, citing environmental concerns.

The matter has drawn significant attention from environmentalists and citizens alike, who are keenly awaiting the High Court’s decision on the issue, given its potential impact on Tapovan’s ecology.
