Nashik (Correspondent): A serious accident occurred on Friday night in Rahud Ghat on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to 20 people. It is suspected that a heavy truck’s brakes failed while descending the ghat, causing it to crash into three other vehicles.
Rahud Ghat is located between Chandwad and Malegaon. The accident took place around 10 p.m., as confirmed by Chandwad Tehsildar Mandar Kulkarni. The impact of the speeding truck was so severe that the other vehicles were completely wrecked.
In the accident, Usha Devre (46, Malegaon) lost her life on the spot, while 20 others suffered injuries. Upon receiving information, police immediately reached the scene. The injured were initially taken to Chandwad Rural Hospital, and after primary treatment, some were shifted to Malegaon and other private hospitals. Due to the accident, one side of the highway remained blocked. Eyewitnesses believe that brake failure on the steep slope led to the crash. The accident caused significant damage to an Eco car, a Swift car, and a goods vehicle.
The injured include Abhiman Devre, Jijabai Devre, Mirabai Pawar, Sheetal Chavan, Sarthak Patil, Bapu Mahale, Roshni Mali, Sonali Patil, and Renuka Patil (6 months old), along with ten others from Malegaon. Additionally, from Mumbai, Tanveer Anis Shaikh, Afreen Shaikh, Inaya Shaikh (7), Rumeha Shaikh (5), and Arwa Shaikh were also injured, as per reports from Chandwad Sub-District Hospital.
