Nashik | May 23, 2025: A thief who sneaked into a marriage hall and stole gold and silver ornaments belonging to the bride’s family during a wedding ceremony has been nabbed by the police within just two days. The crime branch has seized stolen property worth ₹3.78 lakh, including ornaments, cash, mobile, and the vehicle used in the theft.
On May 20, 2025, during a wedding ceremony at Saubhagya Mangal Karyalay (Papaya Nursery, Satpur), an unidentified man entered the hall on a moped and went into the bride’s room, from where he stole the ornaments and fled. A case was registered at Satpur Police Station under BNS Section 303(2), Crime No. 148/2025.
Taking immediate cognizance of the case, officers and personnel of Crime Branch Unit 2 visited the scene and scrutinized CCTV footage. The suspect was clearly seen entering the premises and leaving with the ornaments. A team led by API Dr. Samadhan Hire, PSI Yashwant Bendkoli, Constables Sunil Aher, Prakash Mahajan, and Officer Tejas Mate examined nearly 45 CCTV footages and, using technical analysis, identified the accused.
Acting on a tip-off from an informant, police learned that the suspect would be traveling on a moped (MH15 GT 9597) along the Swarababanagar road, behind the ITI wall, possibly to sell the stolen gold. Based on this information, and under the instructions of API Hemant Todkar (In-charge Officer), Crime Branch Unit 2, the team set a trap and successfully apprehended the accused at the indicated location.
The accused has been identified as Prashant Devanand Rane (Age 34), resident of Om Colony, Old Dhule; currently staying at Dhruvnagar, behind Satyam Wines, Satpur, Nashik. Upon personal search in the presence of witnesses, the police recovered gold and silver ornaments, cash, a mobile phone, and the moped used in the crime, all valued at approximately ₹3,78,000.
Based on his confession, the theft reported under Crime No. 148/2025, BNS Section 303(2) has been solved. The accused has been handed over to Satpur Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
