Nashik (Correspondent): A spell of heavy rainfall is expected to affect Maharashtra over the next five days. According to an alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 2:03 PM on May 22, several districts in Konkan, the Western Ghats, Marathwada, and Vidarbha are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rains and gusty winds during this period.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over the east-central Arabian Sea, extending from the coastal regions of North Karnataka and Goa. This is expected to evolve into a low-pressure system within the next 12 hours and intensify further as it moves northwards over the next 36 hours. Shubhangi Bhute, Head of the Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre, has predicted heavy rain with thunderstorms over the Konkan region and the Western Ghats of central Maharashtra.

A Yellow Alert has been declared for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, forecasting heavy rain. Districts such as Dhule, Nandurbar, Sangli, Jalna, Hingoli, and Parbhani have also been placed under a yellow alert.
