Nashik, May 20, 2025: In a significant breakthrough, the Crime Branch Unit-2 of Nashik Police has successfully apprehended an interstate gang of three habitual offenders involved in a car break-in theft case reported in Indiranagar. The police have solved two theft cases and recovered stolen property worth ₹5.59 lakh, including cash and vehicles used in the crime.
The incident occurred on May 13, 2025, when unidentified miscreants broke the window of a parked Creta car in the Chetananagar area of Indiranagar and fled with ₹1.5 lakh in cash. A case was registered at Indiranagar Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
During the parallel investigation, the Crime Branch Unit-2 team visited the crime scene and obtained crucial leads through CCTV footage. The footage revealed that two individuals on a Honda Unicorn motorcycle had followed the victim’s vehicle before smashing the window and stealing the cash.
Pursuing this lead, police analyzed approximately 90 kilometers of CCTV footage between Nashik and Malegaon. Through continuous surveillance and technical analysis over four days, investigators traced the accused to the Ghodbunder area in Thane district.
Acting on this information, a team led by Assistant Police Inspector Dr. Samadhan Hire, along with PSI Yashwant Bendkoli, API Balu Shelke, and constables Sanjay Sanap, Prakash Mahajan, and Sunil Khairnar, was dispatched to Thane. After two days of intensive surveillance, the team successfully identified and arrested the following suspects:
- Samuel Harel Pereira (57) – Resident of Puranik City, Ghodbunder Road, Thane (West)
- Harish alias Ajay Ravi Gudeti (35) – Resident of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh
- Abhijit Ganesh Prasad (30) – Resident of Tukaingar, Daund, Pune
Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. Police recovered a total of ₹5.89 lakh worth of property, including the stolen cash, an Eeco vehicle, and the Honda Unicorn motorcycle used in the theft.
Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle used was stolen, with a theft case registered at Bobbili Police Station, Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, on November 27, 2023.
Police also confirmed that the main accused, Samuel Harel Pereira, is a notorious repeat offender with eight previous cases of theft and bag lifting registered against him across Maharashtra.
All three accused have been handed over to the Indiranagar Police for further legal action.
